AMK curated a one-sided 7" flexidisk with sounds by some of his friends, and we pressed 250 copies. He then hand-cut half of the flexis, and glued them together onto the back of the other half which are uncut. Each copy of Banned In LA contains the complete uncut side and a unique hand-made side, housed in a unique cover made from cut-up LP covers, along with a numbered sticker. about 100 of these were made

since the 1980s Anthony King aka AMK has cut a renowned streak though the noise & DIY avant garde music scene, using manipulated records, butchered field recordings, a cigar & a flask to lay waste to conceptual aesthetics via visceral sonic creation.
he runs the inimitable Banned Productions music label, releasing hundreds of noise and way-out sound recordings over the decades. each copy is hand-made by Tony, and every release has a distinct aesthetic and often unique technical creation - my first album was cut, bent, and burnt by us during fabrication
he has performed with hand-made flexi disk cut-up records throughout all these many years, often in groups of califone turntables with legendary compatriots. the sound is pumped, the needles loop in skips and leap forth from the plastic, and the performers add more records as the performance goes on
in 2011 Tony and i discussed releasing this one-sided flexi record with a compilation of sound by friends & collaborators of his - he would cut up half of them, and glue them onto the backs of the other half to make unique anti-records playable at home. it took a couple years to press them, a year for Tony to cut them up, about 5 years to come up with the right packaging, and more than a little while longer to finally release them, but here they are - Banned in LA / Cut in LA / Burnt in LA / Bent in LA
Side A features audio tracks gathered and created by AMK, Damion Romero, Gerald Xe Jupitter-Larsen, Geoff Brandin, Bob Bellerue, Erik Hoffman, and Howard D Stelzer.
Side B are one-of-a-kind flexi disk montages using half of the pressed records, as well as other flexi disks in the artists temporary possession.
Cover art is made from cut-up LP covers, with a numbered sticker - AMK has kept track of how many flexi-disk anti-records he has every made, and these copies are up in the 400s. we produced about 100 of these, and you are encouraged to get multiple copies for your next DJ gig
the track provided in the "digital album" is an individual take on it by myself using the classic AMK format of 1-4-1. but you really need to play this yourself in multiple to fully experience it.
Thanks to Tony for all his work, his endurance, and his patience
